The Oakdale Golf and Country Club and the George Knudson Oakdale Pro-Am presented by Scotiabank have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in committing $1 million to each of Mount Sinai Hospital and the Israel Cancer Research Fund from the proceeds of this and future Knudson tournaments.
The 24th annual event held on September 11th, 2013, Chaired by David Lieberman and Vice-Chair Carole Herman Zucker, raised an unprecedented $127,000 for each benefactor.
The Gift to Mount Sinai will be directed toward highest priority funding in the realm of cancer research at the world renowned Lunnenfeld – Tanebaum Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital.
The gift to the Israel Cancer Research Fund has helped to establish the Oakdale/George Knudson Centre for Excellence in Molecular Biology of Cancer. This program funds a number of scientists working at laboratories throughout Israel, who receive the highest rankings by our Scientific Review Panel. One of the scientists who is integral to this program, Dr. Yosef Shiloh was the first Israeli scientist to receive the distinguished Clowes Memorial Award for his studies of the cellular DNA damage response and its implications on cancer.
All of the scientists in the Oakdale/George Knudson Centre for Excellence demonstrate work that has applications and relevance to the field of molecular biology of cancer which is at the understanding of all forms of cancer. Mount Sinai Hospital and the Israel Cancer Research Fund wish to express their deep appreciation to the members of Oakdale Golf and Country Club for leading the way in philanthropic support and for their deep commitment to cancer research.
